It is truly an honor to publish a quilt designer’s very first book and Deborah Dorward’s, “Stitches of Time”, is no exception! Imagine yourself in a lush landscape where both flora and fauna abound. Birds (Deborah’s absolute favorite), deer, floral arrangements, wreaths, or pomegranates are featured in her book, using both applique and Broderie Perse. Deborah’s love of antique fabrics shines through with her playful use of tradition and color, meticulously thought out for each quilt. Her compositions are designed around some of our favorite classics like Baskets, Medallions, Dresden Plates, the Ohio Star, Whig Rose, and the Mariner’s Compass.
To compliment a few of the 11 quilt projects, carefully detailed with full pattern instructions and photos, Deborah has added 3 delightful cushions to accessorize your home. She has included a technical chapter to help you with her go-to techniques – foundation and curved piecing, needle turn and reverse applique, hand piecing and quilting, and much more!
Deborah Dorward is Australian and lives close to Melbourne. She taught herself to sew at an incredibly young age, having asked for a sewing machine at age 4 followed by her first skirt at age 5. By the time she reached high school, sewing classes were the highlight of her schooling and thanks to a 10th grade homework assignment requiring that she make a quilt, Deborah discovered her calling. Not having been born into a family of quilters, Deborah can only attribute her passion for sewing and fabrics to her reincarnation from a past life. Working for an airline company has Deborah traveling around the world and she always has some of her quilt projects with her to work on during her down time!
